Abstract
Absorption measurements are used to calculate the oscillator strengths for transitions from the $^{4}I_{\frac{15}{2}}$ ground state of ${\mathrm{Er}}^{3+}$ in YAl${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ to the 14 lowest multiplets lying between 12 540 and 36 360 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. The results of these measurements and computations employing the Judd-Ofelt theory are compared to recently published results.
