Abstract

Hot DA white dwarfs are well suited for studies of the local interstellar medium (LISM). Their EUV flux is very sensitive to hydrogen, helium and heavy elements along the lines of sight. The LISM is regarded as the dust and gas contained within a region of space extending several hundred parsecs from the Sun. It is believed the Sun lies in a diffuse cloud, the Local Cloud, on the perimeter of the Loop I radio shell. It is thought that this cloud extends several parsecs from the Sun, with T~7000K and n~0.1cm-3.
