Abstract
Background and Aims: Decreased LINE-1 methylation was associated with cardiovascular diseases. However, LINE-1 methylation in vascular cells is poorly investigated in atherosclerosis. Here we studied DNA methylation of LINE-1 promoter in human carotid atherosclerotic plaque, intact artery, and vein, as well as in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and macrophages (MPH) isolated from plaques, and in blood cells.
