Abstract

The liver has the broadest capability of any organ for biotransformation of xenobiotics. Consequently, it is the primary target for many toxins and thus, effects on it can be used as an index for potential long-term toxicity of xenobiotics. Two long-term biological effects of major concern are carcinogenicity and tumor enhancing activity.
