Abstract

The reproducibility of the glucose oxidase peroxidase method for assaying for β-glucosidase activity was shown to be influenced by the nature of the lignocellulosic substrate on which the cellulolytic fungi was grown. When culture filtrates from various pretreated aspenwood and wheat straw fractions were added to the glucose oxidase assay they all decreased the detected glucose values. It appears that various lignocellulosic components influence the assay although lignin derived materials appeared to be the major inhibitors.
