Abstract
This article deals with the study the negative lightning impulse breakdown voltage (LI-BDV) of MIDEL 1204 natural and MIDEL 7131 synthetic ester liquids when adding small amounts of specific nanoparticles (NPs); the considered NPs being magnetic (Fe3O4) and insulating (Al2O3 and SiO2) NPs. It is shown that these NPs enhance the LI-BDV of investigated esters. In addition, for a given type of NPs, there is an optimal concentration for which the U50% LI-BDV is the highest. This latter is enhanced by about 16.8% for natural ester with Al2O3 at a concentration of 0.05 g/L; and by about 25.6% for synthetic ester with Fe3O4 at a concentration of 0.05 g/L.
