Abstract

AbstractIn vertebrate photoreceptors the main step of signal transduction process occurs at the plasma membrane of the outer segments. In darkness Na+‐ and Ca++‐ions are passing this membrane. There is an influx of Na+ but no net flux of Ca++‐ions. After a light pulse the Na+‐current is transiently reduced and the outer Ca++‐concentration increased. By diffusion the Ca++‐ions are rapidly distributed
