Abstract

Illumination of thin z-cut plates of LiNbO3 crystals by an active radiation beam (γ = 0.44 μm) of weak power (PL = 10-20 mW) can induce appearance of a microdomain array (ND = 106 cm-2). The microdomains have the shape of needles directed along z-axis with average length of 1000-2000 μm and diameter ∼1 μm. The special type of conical scattering has been observed. Its peculiarities differ from those of photorefractive light scattering with cone of synchronism. The effect of unlocality of photoinduced domain forming that concerned to the spatial distribution of laser beam has been found. The correlation between the structure rebuilding process and the charge transfer at ferroelectric crystal surface has been established.
