Abstract
The article is devoted to the problems of increasing the spectacular value of the urban environment in Russian cities and the need to regulate this process. As a result of the research, promising trends in the development of visual expressiveness and imagery of the urban environment have been identified, one of which is “fatigue from entertainment” .The author poses the problem of developing regulatory measures for the use of historical and cultural heritage sites as a basis for light shows and festivals, including the development of light master plans for cities.
