Abstract

The presence of fibrinlike material in the synovial lining may be indicative of vascular damage in the subsynovial tissue. The accumulation of both fibrin and collagen between the synovial lining cells may well interfere with the diffusion of nutrients from the underlying vascular channels to the joint cavity and thus result in damage to the cartilage.
