SESSION TITLE: Chest Infections Posters SESSION TYPE: Original Investigation Posters PRESENTED ON: October 18-21, 2020 PURPOSE: INTRODUCTION Many factors leading to relapse of tuberculosis remains uncertain of which lifestyle factors is one. This factors may vary from country to country and region to region within a country. AIM OF THE STUDY To study major lifestyle factors and diabetes and HIV in the aetiology of relapse of tuberculosis We are trying to evaluate major factors under this category for relapse of Tb in a south Indian district in Kerala. METHODS: MATERIAL AND METHOD All sputum positive relapse patient in Alappuzha district for two quarter starting from January 2018 are included in the study. They are assessed as per a structured pre tested questionnaire about possible lifestyle factors and diabetes and HIV for relapse by trained health workers. RESULTS: FINDINGS 80 cases were included in the study satisfying inclusion criteria. They were in the age group of 20 – 85 years. Male predominated over female in the relapse cases in a ratio of 3.8 : 2. Hindus was in a higher ratio than Muslims and Christians. Majority of the patients were in the weight group of 41 – 50 years. 3+ grade was up to 40%. The study factors are as follows-Diabetic Mellitus – 24 (30%) HIV 0, Alcoholics 48 (60%) and Smokers 56 (70%). Majority of patients had previous treatment of RNTCP regimen . All were referred by the Govt. doctors. Majority are from cured in previous treatment. CONCLUSIONS: CONCLUSION Smoking is the most important factor among lifestyle factors contribution to relapse of tb CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: smoking should be avoided at any cost.
