Summary

Introduction

Many patients are currently cared for at the end-of-life stage at home, and the number is expected to increase. The patient’s participation is a prerequisite for good care, which relates to ethical principles and evidence-based action. It is important for patients to continue to live in a context of preserved autonomy with the experience of having some control over life for the last time, and patients should have the opportunity to prepare for the end of life while maintaining self-image and dignity. The patient’s participation is a prerequisite for good care, which relates to ethical principles and evidence-based action [2]. Patients should know that starting this planning early will extend the time and opportunity to change their minds about these decisions and can increase a patient’s motivation and satisfaction, thereby reducing stress and anxiety [6,7]
