Abstract

Once upon a time, at the edge of a dark forest in a faraway land, there was a large pile of wood. But if you imagine it was nothing more than a pile of wood, how wrong you would be. For upon looking carefully, deep down in a quiet corner, beneath some dead branches, you would spy a little web, so small that upon first sight you could have easily missed it. But if you were to draw close, there it would be in all its glory—a very sturdy web, a masterpiece of engineering—a perfect structural design within the chaos of the forest. Yet, to see such a masterful design, you would need to pay attention. The web was occupied by a female black widow spider having an imaginary dialogue with ten little spiders. They discussed matters such as the feminine mystique, partner relationships, the dos and don’ts of effective leadership, and the important role of meaning in life.
