Abstract

Providing consumers with understandable life cycle environmental impact information is crucial to guide their decision-making towards sustainable purchase. This paper exhibits the 'Eco-cost' method to communicate the environmental impact to consumers. An Online Life cycle assessment (LCA) platform developed by the CIRC4Life project is presented and illustrated with a lamp product. The assessment results subsequently have been integrated into sustainable products and services. The implementation of the eco-cost method bridges the communication pathway between a product's environmental information and consumers, enables consumers to take responsibility for their consumption patterns, and provides examples for further research on the subject.
