Abstract

The paper investigates the phenomenon of fear in stories for children from the corpus of Slovenian literature. The subject of analysis involves three stories written by Slovenian authors Prežihov Voranc, Ivo Zorman, and Janja Vidmar. The results show that in each of the analyzed stories, two sides of fear are revealed: the primary, which is related to its visualization and/or sensory perceptions it causes, and the secondary, indirect one, which depends on the sociological or psychological factors that, on the one hand, cause fear, but on the other, can also help one free oneself from it. In addition, the analysis shows the presence of stereotypes in the thematization of fear, in the dismantling of which lies an educational solution for overcoming fear, as well as in the possible procedure of lexical nomination and semantic denotation which would deprive fear of its abstractness. The conclusions indicate the need to demystify the source of fear, as well as the need for further research in this area.
