Librarian in Disguise

Abstract

SUMMARY In large part due to its unique ability to draw deposits from the Copyright Office of the United States, the greater part of the Library of Congress collections of popular culture materials has been built in a manner totally different from that of other institutions. An understanding of these collections can most profitably be developed by looking into the organizational histories and acquisition practices of the Library's varied custodial departments-particularly the Rare Book and Special Collections Division.
