A Current Library of Congress Project for Cataloging 19th-Century Imprints

Abstract

As the sheer volume of uncataloged special collection materials, especially 18th- and 19th-century, continues to mount, we find ourselves faced with the serious dilemma of how to provide bibliographic control to this material in the most cost-effective, timely manner possible. The Library of Congress (LC) is using enhanced minimal-level cataloging (MLC)1 to provide access to pamphlets, one of the most prevalent form s of 18th- and 19th-century publications.
