Abstract

Between 1797 and 1800 in the Orphanage in Jaen, a notebook of foundlings was written, containing a full description of children and their clothing. Through these texts it is possible to notice some features of oral language, but what is most outstanding is lexical information. We will focus on the lexicon of clothing, which is often difficult to find in the most common lexicographical sources and in other kinds of documents. In addition, these texts can give us information about dialect variations in Jaen. Our main objective is twofold: overall, to publish unknown data archives and, in particular, to list the documented lexicon and contrast it with other lexicographical sources of the time. In short, this work intends to contribute to a better understanding of the Spanish lexicon, concretely of the technical area in question, the textile one.
