Summary
Legacy systems can be defined as applications that were built with old technology but are still in use in many business environments [1]. Despite the apparent advantages of transformation from legacy systems to modern web-based solutions, government and private enterprises consider the process risky and challenging and, show reluctance in initiating the change. We propose a legacy modernization approach that aims for gradual technology upgrade from legacy systems to modern web-based solutions without disturbing business operations It is based on a Service Oriented (SO) architectural approach that wraps exciting legacy applications with an AIenabled workflow management layer. Workflow management functionality is achieved via Business Process Management Solutions (BPMS) that can sit on top of the legacy system services This approach emphasizes service orientation where business logic is captured and managed in a dedicated middle service layer that can potentially integrate with any future core systems that may replace current legacy systems.
