Abstract

Gamma transitions in the decay of 17.8 min 88Rb have been investigated by using a Ge(Li) detector and angular correlations of four cascades have been measured with the multicounter goniometer. Five gamma transitions of 338, 485, 1027, 1366 and 2112 keV were newly found in singles and coincidence spectra measured with Ge(Li) and NaI(Tl) detectors. The spins and parities of levels at 3489, 4514, 4846 and 4855 keV were assigned to be 1 +, 2 −, 3 − and 2 −, respectively, from the results of angular correlation measurements and ft values. The angular correlation measurements have also shown that the multipolarities of the gamma transitions of 1366, 2676 and 3009 keV are of purely dipole character and the E2 M1 mixing ratio of the 1382 keV 2 2 +−2 1 + transition agrees well with the single-particle limit. Some qualitative discussions are given concerning the level structure of the 88Sr nucleus.
