Abstract
The new year 2007 is a hallmark in the 62-year-old history of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology. The most visible change is the logo and front cover of the journal. In 2004, our name changed from Pharmacology & Toxicology to Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology, or simply BCPT, as emphasized by the new logo. The second major change is that accepted and edited articles will be published electronically, in advance of print publication, utilizing the distributor Blackwell Munksgaard's Online Early. In order to widen the access to BCPT, the electronic edition will become available to subscribers and consortia via Blackwell's own service Blackwell Synergy. As soon as an article is published electronically it can be cited. In future, Blackwell will be responsible for typesetting and printing of BCPT, which means that our collaboration with the print house P. J. Schmidt A/S in Vojens, Denmark, has come to an end. I wholeheartedly thank P. J. Schmidt for their professionalism, dedication and excellent collaboration for many years. It was decided in 2006 that in future BCPT will be the preferred journal of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT), and on the subsequent page you will find a Letter from the President of EACPT, Professor Michael Orme. We are looking very much forward to collaborating with EACPT. Up to now, this is the climax of a modernization process that I started in 2003 when I became the editor-in-chief of BCPT. It all aims at making the journal able to meet the challenges and possibilities in a very competitive globalized market. The number of newly submitted manuscripts continued to increase, in 2006 exceeding 300, and so did the rejection rate, which was around 60%. I strongly believe that the scientific quality of the papers we accept is steadily increasing. The 2005 aggregate Impact Factor for the journal is 1.637, which is an almost 30% increase compared with 2004. Professor Jens F. Rehfeld has been a member of the Executive Committee of BCPT since 1999, but he decided to leave in 2006. I wish to express my sincere thanks to Jens for his excellent contributions to our journal. Professor Miki Scheinin from Finland became the new MiniReview editor. During the year, I have had an excellent collaboration with the copy editor Mrs Grete Hoppe-Mouret and the editorial assistants Mrs Tina Ludvig and Mr Henrik Horneberg. Finally, as always I want to thank our editorial advisors, the members of the Executive Committee, the American Field Editor, William B. Campbell, and the four MiniReview editors for their dedication and work for the journal in 2006. Special thanks to all of our external reviewers who are listed in this issue, and of course also to the many scientists who trust us and choose to submit their scientific work for publication with us in Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology. From 20 to 24 May 2007, BCPT is the co-organizer and co-sponsor of pptox, ‘International Conference on Fetal Programming and Developmental Toxicity’. The conference takes place on the Faroe Islands.
