Abstract

We read with interest the article by Chimenti and Frustaci1 on the advantages and disadvantages of the left ventricular (LV) endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) for the investigation of cardiomyopathies in comparison with the use of the right ventricular biopsy. The authors concluded that the risk of major complications from LV EMB was <1% and that its diagnostic performance was superior to those obtained from right ventricular EMB in patients with cardiomyopathies and clinically preserved right ventricles. This article raises the global question of the use of EMB in the daily management of patients with acute or chronic cardiomyopathies.
