Abstract
Most presently taught elementary physical and historical geology courses are inadequate as a foundation for advanced work and underaimed as environmental appreciation courses. It is recommended that physical geology be split into two courses: (1) an earth materials and interior course, and (2) geomorphology. It is further recommended that historical geology be split into (1) stratigraphy, and (2) paleontology.
