Abstract

Abstract : While it is clear that shrinking defense budgets demand streamlining, it is not clear whether this desire for efficiency will significantly affect combat readiness. Because of world events and legislation like Goldwater-Nichols, Air Force roles and missions continue to change and do so under great scrutiny The effects privatization is having on Air Force missions is largely unknown. This is why it is necessary to examine lessons learned from current privatization efforts and evaluate the current impact on missions of the Air Force. In completing the research, it analyzed a variety of mission related criteria to include: expenditure of maintenance funds, Missile Guidance Set (MGS) delivery rates, MGS survival rates turn around times on repaired items. Since Newark AFB is the only operational U.S. Air Force depot to have undergone privatization to the date, the focus of this paper will be on lessons learned from current activities underway at Newark AFB.
