Abstract

The phase diagram of the binary system selenium-red phosphorus is established by means of differential thermal analysis and radiocristallography. The experimental conditions for cristallization of the vitrous or X-ray-amorphous samples are described. A new phosphorus selenide P 4Se 4 appears in the phase diagram. This compound melts congruently at 330°C and exists under two crystalline forms. After a thermal modification, at 92°C, the selenide P 4Se 10 melts congrently at 215°C. P 4Se 3 which exists under three allotropic forms, shows at 246°C a singular point between congruence and incongruence of transition.
