Abstract

The principal differential diagnoses in food allergy correspond to the various clinical conditions – urticaria, anaphylaxis, asthma, digestive symptoms – which occur in food allergy but also occur without IgE sensitization to the suspected food. Such situations lead to either a diagnostic elimination diet or to an analysis of the inducing and circumstantial elements, and these must become an integral part of the diagnostic work up when food allergy is suspected. The approach to take and the advice given to the patient are then the most appropriate.
