Abstract
Abstract The origin of the exotic pebbles of quartz and Paleozoic igneous and metamorphic rocks found in the predominantly limestone terrain of the Charente coastal region, between Grouin du Cou point and Oleron island, France, is attributed, on the basis of their petrography, granulometry, and degree of marine abrasion, to transport from the Vendee massif by former streams with enormous flood plains extending as far as the continental shelf.
