Abstract

ABSTRACT (EN) Two sermon collections by thirteenth-century French preacher Nicolas de Hacqueville have been preserved, one containing a de tempore series and the other a de sanctis series. This essay offers a list, description, and analysis of the exempla used in both collections. It puts this into perspective with the use of exempla in the additional texts found in one of the witnesses, manuscript Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Latin 15957, which contains both collections by Nicolas, and gives us some insight into the practices and expectations of users of the manuscript.
