Abstract
Unemployment and underemployment are among the most persistant and important problems of contemporary India. It is perhaps in the modern city of Bombay, with its strong commercial and industrial base, that tensions specifically regarding these issues arose the most. Among the first responses, the creation of a «nativist » movement took on a definite importance. Today, since the end of the eighties, the development of small and medium scale private manpower recruitment offices seems to be the relevant trend. These firms are varied despite some common characteristics. This article tries to present their different representative types. Will privatization be the answer to the scarcity of jobs ?
