Abstract

The beginnings of theatrical criticism in Spain (1762-1763). In Spain at the beginning of the 60s one witnesses the rise of the periodical press and the birth of theatrical criticism. After mentioning the various aspects of theatrical life of the time in Spain, especially in Madrid, the author examines the tendencies of the theatrical criticism and brings out the contributions of two journalists : J. Clavijo (El Pensador), passionate supporter of a revival of Spanish theatre, and F. M. Nifo (Diario estrangero), whose reforming spirit is more finely shaded.
