Abstract

The observed duration of the neutrino pulse from the Supernova 1987A may be used to constrain hypothetical long-range forces coupling neutrinos and galactic matter. If these forces are mediated by massless vector bosons, this can lead to a drastic change in the usual MSW analysis for the Sun, depending on screening effects by the cosmic neutrino background, electrons, protons, or dark-matter particles accumulated inside the Sun. \textcopyright{} 1995 The American Physical Society.
