Abstract

This study, which combined bibliographical, documental, and field researches, was performed in the Metropolitan Area of Campinas – MAC, countryside of São Paulo State, Brazil, and included the main city, a middle-sized town, and two small-sized towns, all of which were chosen on the criteria of representativeness, through comparative studies. The conclusions point to : high concentration of spaces and infrastructures (s. & e.) in one of the main city’s area ; equitable distribution in the middle-sized town ; and centralization of s. & e. in the main city in detriment of the peripheral towns.
