Abstract Canals, defined as artificial waterways, are built with the aim of providing shorter transit time, cheaper and safer maritime trade. However, in order for constructed canals to be used effectively, it is important to determine their legal status according to their features. The fact that Kanal İstanbul is planning to build parallel to the Bosphorus, which is the natural waterway, ensures that Kanal İstanbul has its own unique features due to its location.
