Abstract

Certainly, the most important medical aim after undergoing kidney transplantation is to avoid rejection and to improve graft and patient survival. This requires a lifelong immunosuppressive medication as well as an enduring monitoring of possible complications or graft rejections by the transplant center and the patient. However, health-related quality of life and subjective experiences have become a very important criterion in the choice and evaluation of any type of medical treatment. Standardized instruments are designed to assess and compare the dimensions of the quality of life quantitatively. Qualitative research is useful to gain a deeper understanding of patients perspective.
