This article explores the impact of the Cape Town Convention on aircraft leasing practices. It provides a comparative analysis of lease definitions and categorizes leases into various types, highlighting the nuances and legal implications of each. Significant case studies are examined to illustrate the practical application of these principles in legal disputes. Furthermore, the Convention’s critical provisions regarding international interests, default remedies and insolvency rules are reviewed. This article concludes with an overall positive assessment of the Convention’s effectiveness in balancing the rights and interests of lessors and lessees in the context of international chattel leasing.
