Abstract

Gonrang Sipitu-pitu is a seven-percussion or rhythmic musical instrument played at the death ceremony of the Simalungun tribe. To play this percussion instrument you have to use two small sticks like a drummer. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative. The results of the discussion in this article are the stages of learning gonrang rhythm pattern that starts with the rhythm pattern that belongs to gonrang ting-ting, jangat, and panongah. There are three players found in the gonrang of playing that in the ensemble of gual. Each player plays a different rhythm pattern. In this learning which is about music ensemble. It is gual sayurmatua. Uniquely, this gual is presented in a slow tempo (andante) and between three musical instruments complement each other. Specifically, there are three types of rhythm patterns that are played in the gonrang that are in the basic rhythm patterns and varied rhythm patterns. Ting-ting as a rhythm pattern that is equipped with rhythm patterns. Jangat as basic rhythm patterns, and panongah as different varied rhythm patterns with a basic rhythm pattern.
