Abstract

The goal of this article is to establish a framework for learning across the lifespan. We first overview principles of learning that serve as common ground for the diverse theories populating the literature. Next, we consider competing views on the relation between learning and development. What follows is a comparison of the literatures on learning across the lifespan and lifelong learning, in which the commonalities and differences in these orientations are described. We then conclude with an overview of the Model of Domain Learning and how it captures the relation between learning and development and illustrates learning across the lifespan.
