Abstract
ABSTRACT We studied the flammability of leaves of 17 Mediterranean species collected over a period of 12 months on the promontory of Monte Argentario (Tuscany Region, Italy). The reaction of the leaves to heat varied both in terms of percentage of flammability and ignition parameters (temperature and time). No correlation was found between moisture content of the leaf tissue and ignition parameters. A hierarchy of the species based on heat resistance was created, also including those leaves that caught fire sporadically.
