Abstract

Three new o-phthalate (pht) lead(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray structural analysis of [Pb(pht)(H2O)] n shows the complex to be a novel 2D chain polymer as a result of phthalate bridging. Coordination number of Pb(II) is eight, PbO8, with a “stereo-chemically active” electron lone pair, and the coordination sphere is hemidirected. Packing of this compound in the solid state via π–π stacking and hydrogen bonding is discussed.
