Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate leadership roles and people participation in community development project in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State. To achieve the aim of the study, four null hypotheses were formulated. Literatures related to the variables were reviewed. The total sample consisting of two hundred (200) respondents were randomly selected for the study. Survey research design was adopted. The main instrument for data collection was the research questionnaire. The data were collected and analysed using Pearson product moment correlation. The finding of the study revealed that; there is a significant relationship between decision making skill, fundraising and management skills, project coordination and monitoring skills and personnel management skills and people participation in community development. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that, community leaders should engage the people in decision making process so as to encourage them to participate in community development project. Also, community leaders should be trained on fundraising skills and management that will enable them mobilize community members to support community development projects. Conclusions were drawn and suggestions were made for further studies.
