Abstract
This paper aims at a specific terminological study: it is going to tackle the strategic choices we made in order to decide what is the meaning of certain designations of wine, in French military argot during World War I (the so called « argot des poilus » or: ‘hairy slang’), and in order to identify the synonyms and more or less immediate hypernyms of one of those terms – pinard (poor quality red wine (of the soldier)). We are going to achieve those goals not just by lexicographic research but mainly by a thorough investigation of occurrence contexts, going from dictionary examples to larger texts, as well as through punctual thematic documentation (KWIC).
