Abstract
This article deals with the supplications to the prince until the end of the first century. To what extent was it possible, at the beginning of the Principate, to appeal to the emperor’s mercy and obtain his fides ? The context of the supplications to the Julio-Claudian and Flavian emperors is studied, then two particularities are highlighted : the difficulty to access the prince and the spectacular staging of these supplications. The role of emotions and of deliberation in the final decision making by the supplicandus is also analysed, in order to show the political stakes of supplications to emperors.
