Abstract

Recent structures in the Maghreb are compatible with a stress field dominated by the roughly north-south orientation of σ 1. Transition from calc-alkaline to alkaline magmatism occurred during the Late Miocene. It was related to separation of the Maghreb central indenter from its western and eastern parts, which experience lateral escape.
