Abstract

The article reports on the progress of the students of higher schools of art (formerly schools of fine arts). In a first step it describes the peculiarities of the artistic higher education, as opposed to the other sectors of the higher education. In a second step, the inventory of the social and academic recruitment of schools reveals a strong heterogeneity among the establishments. Finally, the longitudinal analysis of the routes of 1 570 students registered in first year shows that the success of artistic studies depends more on the context of study than on cultural inheritance.
