Abstract
In Italy, the Covid-19 outbreak was addressed in the so-called Fase 1 through restrictive measures and by appealing to 'essential workers' for the maintenance of necessary services. This article draws from a qualitative study on the experiences of migrant care workers during this phase. The study highlights both the problems faced and dynamics such as the consolidation of 'family' relationships between foreign 'carers' and Italian elderly people, as well as the willingness of Italian families to regularise the legal status of these workers.
