Abstract

We report the effect of Fe3+ substitution on the structural and magnetic properties of BiFeO3 samples. The substituted sample (Bi0.5Fe0.5FeO3) is taken into account to compare the results with pure BiFeO3. Both the samples were prepared by a simple self-propagating combustion method at ambient. A decrease in lattice strain as well as crystallite size was observed with substitution. The M-H curve of Bi0.5Fe0.5FeO3 shows an enhanced saturation magnetization with decrease in coercivity and remnance. The experimental results are corroborated with the Fe-O-Fe bond angle and the average A-site cation radius.
