Abstract

Self-consistent values of the lattice energies of Group IIa halides have been calculated by application of (a) a Born-Haber cycle and (b) a solvation enthalpy cycle. Combined solvation enthalpies of these ions are shown to be simple functions of (a) anion radius and (b) lyotropic number.
