Abstract
The latent hardening of six secondary glide systems of germanium crystals has been measured at the begin of easy glide. The results can be explained in case of intersecting systems by adding a term for forest interaction to the flow stress of single slip. This term amounts to (αGb √Nf with α ≈︂ 0.35 for various types of dislocation cutting, and α = 0.64 for the cross glide system. (G being the appropriate shear modulus, b the length of the Burgers vector and Nf the density of forest dislocations). The Bauschinger effect seems to confirm the anisotropy of dislocation mobility detected by Farber and Iunin.
