Abstract

This article will argue that it will be a great mistake to fully withdraw all US and foreign troops from Afghanistan without either a new constitution or major constitutional amendments in place as this has the potential of pushing Afghanistan back into the hands of the religious fundamentalists. The author argues that at least two parts of the constitution must be amended substantially to ensure peace in Afghanistan, there must be a clear demarcation between the central and the provincial government's powers and an improved system of checks and balances between the three branches of the government.
