Abstract
One ofthe organizations that can justifiably take credit for leading the development of a Japanese as well as a global optoelectronics industry is the Optoelectronics Industry and Technology Development Association (OITDA). The OITDA was founded in July of 1980 with the stimulus of the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), making the OITDA one of the first organizations exclusively concerned with the development of optoelectronics as a serious business. The membership of the OITDA consists of over 200 companies, spanning the spectrum from manufacturing to finance. The members are overwhelmingly Japanese industrial and banking concerns, although membership is open to companies from all countries.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
